Trash collection in Longmont occurs once or twice weekly depending on the service level you have signed up for.
Twice-Weekly Trash Collection
If you have opted for twice-weekly trash service, your collection days will be:
- East of Main Street: Monday and Thursday
- West of Main Street: Tuesday and Friday
Twice-weekly customers have grey trash carts. Put your cart out by 7 AM on your designated collection days.
Once-Weekly Trash Collection
For once-weekly trash customers, collection occurs either on Mondays or Tuesdays depending on your location:
- East of Main Street: Monday
- West of Main Street: Tuesday
Once-weekly customers have yellow trash carts. Your cart must be curbside by 7 AM on your assigned day.

Holiday Schedule
Trash collection is impacted on certain holidays throughout the year.
The City of Longmont does NOT provide trash collection on the following holidays:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Presidents’ Day
- Memorial Day
- Juneteenth
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day
During holiday weeks, if your regular collection day falls on or after the holiday, pickup will be delayed by one day.
For example:
- If your usual collection is Monday and the holiday is on Monday, your pickup will slide to Tuesday that week
- If your usual collection is Wednesday and the holiday is on Monday, your pickup will slide to Thursday that week
The only exception is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Although a City holiday, trash collection still occurs on that Friday.
Collection Guidelines
Follow these key guidelines for smooth trash collection in Longmont:
Curb Placement
- Place carts within 2 feet of the curb or alleyway edge
- Carts must be at least 3 feet apart from each other
- Do not place behind parked cars or other obstacles
- Face cart opening toward the street

- Tie bags to keep contents contained
- Do not jam in more than will fit loosely with the lid closed

- Dead animals
- Electronics like TVs and computers
Overweight Carts
Carts containing excess weight will not be collected. Avoid over-stuffing and make sure carts weigh less than 125 pounds. Overflowing lids will also not be collected.
