No-Tag Weeks
Kansas City has “no-tag” or trash amnesty weeks twice per year:
Independence Day: July 5-10, 2023
Christmas: December 26-30, 2023
During no-tag weeks, residents can place up to 12 extra trash bags curbside without purchasing tags. Bags must:
- Weigh less than 40 pounds
- Not contain hazardous materials
- Not include bulky items, brush, or leaves
Christmas Tree Collection
Live Christmas trees are collected during the first two weeks of January at drop-off sites. All lights and decorations must be removed.
Kansas City residents can drop trees off for free on Saturdays. There is also curbside Christmas tree collection by appointment in early January.
Recycling Tips
- Remove wrapping paper bows, ribbons, and gift bags – these are not recyclable.
- Plain wrapping paper and cardboard boxes can go in curbside recycling.
- If gift wrap is metallic, glossy, or has glitter it is not recyclable.
- Reuse shipping boxes, gift bags, and tissue paper.
