Holiday Schedule

Trash and recycling collection are suspended on the following holidays:

• New Year’s Day
• Martin Luther King Jr. Day
• Presidents’ Day
• Memorial Day
• Juneteenth
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Veterans Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Day after Thanksgiving
• Christmas Day

The only exception is that recycling collection still occurs on New Year’s Day.

There are no make-up collection days when a holiday falls on a normal collection day. Collection resumes on the next scheduled day after the holiday.

Inclement Weather Policy

Trash and recycling collection may be suspended if the city government closes due to inclement weather. There are generally no make-up collection days when this occurs. Collection resumes on the next scheduled day after the closure.

Yard Waste Collection

• Yard waste is collected weekly on Wednesdays from March through December.

• Place leaves, grass clippings, brush and branches curbside in paper yard waste bags or reusable containers marked “yard waste.”

• Tree limbs may be up to 4 feet long and 4 inches in diameter.

• Yard waste bundles/containers may weigh up to 50 pounds.

Bulk Trash Collection

• Bulk trash includes large items that cannot fit in normal trash receptacles like furniture, appliances, and mattresses.

• Bulk trash is collected by appointment only on Fridays year-round.

• Schedule a bulk trash pickup by calling 301-809-2344. Appointments must be made by 2 PM on Thursdays.

• Place bulk items curbside after 5 PM on the evening before the scheduled pickup day.

• Each household is limited to 3 cubic yards of bulk trash per pickup.
