The city of Pawtucket, Rhode Island provides weekly trash and recycling collection services for residential properties. Overview of Collection Schedule

  • Trash pickup occurs once per week on a designated weekday depending on location. View the trash collection map to find your scheduled collection day.

  • Recycling is collected weekly on the same day as trash pickup. There is no separate recycling collection day.

  • Yard waste pickup runs weekly from April through early December only, on regular trash days.

  • Bulk waste like furniture must be scheduled for pickup by calling 401-728-0500 ext. 233.

Trash Collection Guidelines

  • Trash must be bagged and placed in city-issued trash barrels. Barrels cannot be set out before 4 PM the evening prior to pickup.

  • Each barrel cannot exceed 32 gallons in size and 50 pounds in weight when full.

  • No loose trash or trash in cardboard is collected. Empty all cardboard boxes.

  • Construction debris, dirt, rocks, concrete, and renovation waste cannot be placed in trash barrels.

Recycling Collection Guidelines

  • Accepted recyclables include paper, cardboard, metal cans, aluminum foil, glass bottles and jars, and plastic containers #1-#7.

  • Keep recyclables loose in bins – no plastic bags. Cardboard boxes are okay.

  • Place recycling curbside with trash before 4 PM the evening before pickup day.

Yard Waste Collection Guidelines

  • Yard waste like leaves, grass, branches must be kept separate from trash. Use paper bags or rigid containers labeled “yard waste.”

  • Branches cannot exceed 3 inches diameter and 3 feet length. Bundle branches using string/twine.

  • No plastic bags allowed for yard waste. Empty contents into paper bags or cans.

Bulk Item Collection

  • Accepted bulk items include furniture, mattresses, appliances, rugs under 5’x7′.

  • Call 401-728-0500 ext. 233 to schedule pickup of 3 items per week. Additional fees apply for certain appliances.

  • Bulk items cannot be placed curbside until pickup is scheduled. Allow a few days’ notice.

Holiday Schedule Changes

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Hazardous items like chemicals, batteries, propane tanks, and electronics cannot be disposed of in curbside trash. Pawtucket residents must bring these materials to the Eco-Depot Center located at 655 Providence Street in West Warwick.
