Living in Gilbert, Arizona? Wondering when bulk trash pickup occurs in your neighborhood or how to properly set items out for bulk trash collection? This guide provides everything you need to know about Gilbert’s bulk trash service, including the bulk trash collection schedule, what’s accepted, how to prepare bulk items for pickup, and important bulk trash guidelines.
Overview of Gilbert’s Bulk Trash Service
The Town of Gilbert provides bulk trash collection services to residential properties at no additional charge beyond the standard trash collection fee. Bulk trash collection occurs on a quarterly schedule, with designated neighborhoods covered each week.
During your designated week, bulk items set curbside will be collected on your normal trash day. Setting bulk items out on the wrong day or week may result in them being missed.
Gilbert’s bulk trash service collects large household items that cannot fit inside standard trash containers. This includes furniture, appliances, mattresses, and other oversized items. However, certain items like construction debris, hazardous materials, and bagged trash cannot be collected as bulk trash.
Review the bulk trash schedule below to find out when your neighborhood will receive bulk trash service. Bulk item collection guidelines are also provided to ensure your items are properly prepared for pickup.

What Items are Accepted as Bulk Trash?
Gilbert’s bulk trash service collects oversized items that won’t fit inside your regular trash containers, including:
- Furniture – couches, chairs, mattresses, tables, desks, dressers, etc.
- Appliances – washers, dryers, water heaters, stoves, dishwashers, etc.
- Misc. large household items – toys, bicycles, lawn mowers, grills, electronics, etc.
All bulk items must originate from the residential property. Trash generated by contractors is not accepted.
Key Bulk Trash Guidelines:
- Items should be placed curbside by 6:00am on your normal trash day during your scheduled week
- Individual items should not exceed 200 lbs or 8 ft in length
- Items should be free of other trash or debris
- Hazardous waste is not accepted (see disposal options below)
Items NOT Accepted as Bulk Trash
While Gilbert’s bulk trash service is extensive, there are certain limitations on what can be collected curbside:
- Bagged trash – All normal household trash must be placed in standard containers. Do not bag up trash and set it out as bulk waste.
- Construction/remodeling debris – Lumber, drywall, brick, concrete, tile, carpet, etc. requires special disposal.
- Hazardous materials – Paint, chemicals, oils, batteries, pesticides, cleaning products, etc. require special hazardous waste disposal.
- Commercial trash – Only residential trash is accepted. No business/contractor waste.
Other non-acceptable items include loose gravel, dirt, rocks, bricks, concrete, cacti, railroad ties, car parts, and metal.
For disposal options for unaccepted items, see the resources below.
Preparing Your Bulk Items for Collection
Properly preparing your bulk trash will ensure it’s picked up on schedule. Follow these guidelines when setting items curbside:
- Have items at the curb by 6:00am on your normal trash day during your scheduled bulk collection week
- Place items within 2 feet of the curb or edge of pavement
- Do not block sidewalks, mailboxes, fire hydrants, or parked cars
- Stack neatly to allow access by collection trucks
- No individual item should weigh over 200 lbs or exceed 8 ft in length
- Remove doors from large appliances for safety
- Drain all fluids from appliances
- Disassemble any items possible to reduce size
Also consider reusing, donating, or selling any useful bulk items prior to disposal using websites like Craigslist or OfferUp. This keeps useful items circulating and reduces landfill waste.
Hazardous Waste and Other Special Disposal
As noted above, certain hazardous household chemicals and construction/remodeling debris cannot be disposed of through Gilbert’s regular bulk trash pickup.
Fortunately, Gilbert provides special options for properly disposing of these items:
Hazardous Waste Disposal
- Gilbert residents can safely dispose of paint, chemicals, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and other hazardous waste at the Gilbert Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.
- The facility is located at 50 S Oak and open Thursdays and Saturdays (except holiday weekends).
- Residents can also use the Pinal County Hazardous Waste Collection Program which visits Gilbert quarterly. Check the website for upcoming dates and locations.
Construction and Remodel Debris
- For disposal of lumber, drywall, tile, carpet, or other construction debris, use the Town of Gilbert Landfill.
- The landfill charges reasonable rates to dispose of construction and remodeling trash. Located at Sunland and Baseline.
- You can also contact private haulers to arrange construction debris removal.
By following Gilbert’s bulk trash schedule and guidelines, you can keep your home free of unwanted large items. Reuse or donate items when possible, and utilize Gilbert’s special disposal options for hazardous waste or construction debris. Properly setting out acceptable bulk trash on your designated pickup dates will ensure your neighborhood stays clean and clutter-free.
