Trash Collection Schedule

Bulk Item and Extra Yard Waste Collection

Bulk items and extra yard waste are collected bi-weekly on the normal trash collection day. This includes large furniture, appliances, mattresses, and other bulky items. Extra yard waste can be placed curbside on these days without bundling or bagging requirements.

Household Hazardous Waste

  • Accepts paint, chemicals, oils, batteries, electronics
  • Open Tuesdays 7AM-1PM and Saturdays 8AM-3PM

Household hazardous waste such as paints, pesticides, oils, batteries, and electronics can be dropped off at the county’s household hazardous waste facility. The drop-off center is located at 6305 Haley Rd and open Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Trash Cart Leasing

  • Extra trash carts can be leased for $10/month
  • Carts are 95-gallon capacity
  • Complete an application to lease extra carts

Households that need extra trash capacity can lease additional 95-gallon carts from the city for $10 per month. Complete the cart lease application and the fee will be added to your monthly utility bill. There is no limit on the number of extra carts that can be leased.

Holiday Collection Schedule

Trash and recycling collection are delayed by one day after major holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Check the holiday collection schedule for exact dates. Collection will occur on the next day for the remainder of that week (Friday pickup moves to Saturday).

Eligibility and Fees

  • Trash and recycling services are provided to all households within Memphis city limits
  • Services are paid through a monthly Solid Waste Fee on MLGW utility bills
  • Senior and disabled low-income discount available
