Trash and Recycling Pickup in Apex, NC: The Complete Guide

//

Admin

The Town of Apex provides residents with convenient weekly garbage and recycling collection. This guide covers everything you need to know about Apex’s trash and recycling schedule, including collection days, holiday changes, yard waste pickup, and more.

Service Providers

Apex contracts with two main companies for waste services:

  • GFL Environmental – Provides weekly garbage and recycling collection for residences.

  • Apex Public Works – Provides weekly yard waste collection for residences.

Finding Your Collection Day

Apex follows a set trash and recycling schedule based on where you live. To find your assigned collection day:

  • Check the online collection map. Enter your address to see your color-coded collection day.

  • Download the Apex Collects app and allow notifications to get reminders of your pickup days.

  • Garbage and recycling are collected on the same day each week.

  • Yard waste is collected weekly on the next business day after your garbage/recycling day.

Collection Schedule

  • Monday: Blue areas on map
  • Tuesday: Green areas
  • Wednesday: Red areas
  • Thursday: Purple areas
  • Friday: Yellow areas

So if you live in a green area, your garbage and recycling are picked up Tuesdays, and yard waste Wednesdays.

Accepted Materials

Apex accepts all standard recyclables loose in your recycling cart, including:

  • Paper and cardboard
  • Plastic bottles and containers
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum cans and foil
  • Milk and juice cartons

Check the Waste Wizard to search if specific items can be recycled.

Cart Placement

  • Carts must be at the curb by 7am on your collection day
  • Carts must be 3 feet away from each other and any obstacles
  • Handles should face the house
  • Wheels against the curb on hard surface – avoid placing in roadway

Holiday Changes

If your normal pickup day falls on a major holiday, collection is delayed by one day that week:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

So Monday collection moves to Tuesday after a holiday. Friday moves to Saturday.
