The City of Lynn provides trash and recycling collection services to residents through the Department of Public Works (DPW). This article provides an overview of collection schedules, policies, fees, and contact information for Lynn’s trash and recycling program.

Collection Schedule

  • Trash and recycling are collected weekly on designated days depending on your address.

  • Trash and recycling alternate weeks – Week A for trash, Week B for recycling.

Collection Days

  • Monday – Pickup south of Boston St.

  • Tuesday – Pickup north of Boston St. and east of Blossom St.

  • Wednesday – Pickup west of Blossom St.

  • Thursday – Pickup for missed collections.

Holiday Schedule

If a holiday falls on your pickup day, collection moves to the following day.

Trash Collection

  • All households receive one 64-gallon trash cart.

  • Trash must be bagged inside cart – no overflow.

  • Limit of 4 purple bags per week. Bags are $1 each at designated locations.

  • Trash must be curbside by 7 AM on collection day.

Recycling Collection

  • Households receive one 64-gallon recycling cart with either a green or blue lid.

  • Check acceptable materials list before recycling. No plastic bags.

  • Extra recycling can be bundled neatly next to cart – no limit.

  • Carts must be curbside by 7 AM on recycling weeks.

Bulk Items

  • Bulk items like furniture and appliances are collected on the last Wednesday of each month.

  • Items must be curbside by 7 AM on collection day.

  • Doors must be removed from appliances. Items over 50 lbs require a special pickup – call DPW.

Yard Waste

  • Yard waste is collected April 1 through December 15 on your trash day.

  • Grass clippings, leaves, twigs must be in paper bags or open barrels labeled “yard waste.”

  • Brush must be tied in 4-foot lengths. Limit of 20 bags/barrels per week.

Fees

  • $90 annual trash fee charged in 2 installments. Pays for trash and recycling service.

  • Fee waived if you have private hauler and provide proof of service.

  • Seniors 69+ are eligible for $40 discount. Apply annually.

Hazardous Waste

  • Hazardous waste like chemicals, batteries, paints, etc. cannot be disposed in trash.

  • Drop off at Household Hazardous Waste site – 191 Marion St. Open Saturday mornings.
