Durango, Colorado provides municipal trash and recycling services for residential properties within city limits. This article provides an overview of Durango’s trash and recycling collection schedule, including regular service days, holidays, and other key details for residents.

Regular Collection Schedule

Durango provides weekly curbside trash and recycling pickup for single family homes, townhomes, and duplexes. Pickup occurs once per week on an assigned day.

To find your assigned collection day:

Trash and recycling pickup occurs between 6am and 8pm on your scheduled day. Cans must be curbside by 8am to ensure collection.

Holiday Schedule

Durango suspends trash and recycling collection on major holidays. Collection is delayed by one day if the holiday falls on a Monday-Thursday. View the full holiday schedule here.

The observed holidays that affect service are:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Presidents’ Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

For example, if your regular pickup is Thursday and the holiday is on Monday, your pickup will slide to Friday that week.

Guidelines

Follow these guidelines for successful curbside pickup:

  • Place bins curbside by 8am on your pickup day
  • Position bins with wheels against the curb and opening facing the street
  • Leave 4ft clearance around bins for automated truck arms
  • Do not overfill bins or jam materials in
  • Keep bin lids closed
  • Return bins to your property by 8pm after collection
  • Do not put bags, glass, styrofoam, or food waste in recycling

Options for Missed or Overflow Trash

If you miss your regular collection day, you can request a special pickup for $12.81. Call (970) 375-5004 to schedule.

For overflow trash that won’t fit in your bin, you can schedule a bulk pickup for $175 per truckload plus $10 per appliance. Schedule and pay online.

Overfilled bins that won’t close are subject to a $12.81 overfill charge.

Durango offers several drop-off locations for trash and recycling:

Durango Recycling Center

2103 West 31st Street

Open 7 days per week, 8am-4pm

Accepts single stream recycling, yard waste, bulky items, electronics. Free for city residents with utility bill.

Durango Transfer Station

755 Tech Center Drive

Open 7 days per week, 7am-4:45pm

Accepts trash and single stream recycling for a fee based on volume. Free recycling drop-off for city residents.

Spencer’s Marketplace

555 S Camino del Rio

Open 24 hours

Provides exterior recycling drop-off bins for cardboard, paper, plastic, metals, glass.
