Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste is collected weekly on your regular garbage collection day.

Yard waste must be placed in paper bags, reusable containers, or bundled with twine – no plastic bags.

Accepted yard waste includes:

Leaves, pine straw, grass clippings

Tree branches and brush, cut into 4-foot lengths

The town provides weekly leaf collection in the fall. Leaves should be placed loose at the curb – no bags.
Collection Schedules
Cary provides an online search tool to find your assigned collection day for garbage, recycling, and yard waste:
You can search by address to see your weekly garbage and yard waste pickup day, as well as biweekly recycling day.
Collection schedules may be impacted by holidays. Upcoming holiday collection schedules are posted on the town’s website.
Bulky Item and Appliance Collection
Cary offers bulky item collection for large items that cannot fit in your garbage cart, such as:
- Furniture
- Grills
- Mattresses
Schedule bulky item pickup by appointment for a fee by calling 311 or submitting a request online.
Appliance collection can also be scheduled for a fee. Appliances can alternatively be dropped off at the Citizen’s Convenience Center or Wake County Multi-Material Facility.
Citizen’s Convenience Center
The Cary Citizen’s Convenience Center provides drop-off disposal for:
- Garbage
- Recycling
- Yard waste
- Household hazardous waste
- Electronics
- Appliances ($10 fee per appliance)
The convenience center is located at 1121 Old Apex Road and is open 12-7pm Tuesday-Friday and 9am-4pm on Saturdays.
