//

Admin

Knowing when to take out the trash and recycling is key to keeping Radnor clean and green. This comprehensive guide will provide residents everything they need to know about Radnor’s trash and recycling schedule.

Trash and Recycling Collection Days

Trash and recycling collection occurs once a week on your assigned day. Here are the designated collection days by area:

  • Monday: North Wayne, St. Davids, Villanova, Rosemont
  • Tuesday: Ithan, South Wayne, Radnor
  • Wednesday: Bryn Mawr, Garrett Hill
  • Thursday: Wynnewood, Penn Valley

New residents can find their collection day by entering their address on the Radnor Trash and Recycling Calendar website.

Trash and Recycling Pickup Times

Trash and recycling pickup occurs between 7AM to 5PM on your designated day. To ensure your trash is collected, have your bins curbside by 7AM on your pickup day.

Leaving bins curbside overnight is prohibited. All bins must be removed from the curb by 6PM on the collection day.

Holiday Collection Schedule

Trash collection is delayed by one day if the regular pickup day falls on or after these holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

For example, if your usual pickup is Monday and the holiday is on Monday, your pickup will occur on Tuesday that week.

Check the trash collection calendar for specific delayed collection days.

Trash Bin Size and Placement

  • Trash bins cannot exceed 32 gallons in capacity.
  • Place bins at least 3 feet away from any standing object like mailboxes, street signs or utility poles.
  • Position bins with the lid opening facing the street and ensure the bins are accessible to collection trucks.

Do not place trash in plastic bags beside trash bins. Any extra trash must fit inside your bin with the lid fully closed.

Recycling Bin Size and Placement

  • Recycling bins cannot exceed 32 gallons in capacity.
  • Place recycling bins 3 feet away from trash bins for separate collection.
  • Follow the same curbside placement guidelines as trash bins.

As with trash, do not bag or leave recyclables beside bins. Extra recyclables must fit inside the bin.

Accepted Curbside Recyclables

Radnor’s single-stream recycling program allows all recyclables to be mixed together in your recycling bin. Here are the accepted curbside recyclables:

  • Plastic bottles and containers
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum and metal food cans
  • Milk and juice cartons
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Newspaper and magazines
  • Office paper and junk mail

Rinse or wipe food residue off recyclables before placing them in your bin. Do not bag recyclables.

Non-Accepted Curbside Items

These items should NOT be placed in your curbside trash or recycling:

Trash:

  • Yard waste like leaves and branches
  • Construction debris
  • Hazardous waste like chemicals or batteries
  • Automotive products like motor oil

Recycling:

  • Plastic bags and wrap
  • Styrofoam
  • Food waste
  • Diapers
  • Medical waste
  • Clothing and shoes
  • Electronics
  • Household items like toys or cookware

Special Pickups for Large Items

For large household items like furniture, appliances and mattresses, schedule a special pickup through the Radnor Public Works Department.

There is a $25 fee per item. Multiple items can be picked up at once if scheduled together.

Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste like leaves, branches and plant trimmings must be disposed of separately from trash. Here are yard waste guidelines:

  • Place yard waste in open containers or biodegradable bags. Do not use plastic bags.
  • Yard waste is collected curbside on Wednesdays from March 1 to December 1.
  • Christmas trees are collected during the first 2 weeks of January. Remove all decorations first.
  • Brush and branches must be cut into 4-foot lengths and bundled.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Hazardous household items like chemicals, batteries and CFL bulbs require special disposal. Radnor hosts several household hazardous waste collection events each year.

Residents can also take hazardous waste to the Delaware County Household Hazardous Waste Facility year-round.

Only residential waste is accepted. No business or commercial waste is allowed.

Electronics Recycling

E-waste like computers, TVs and small appliances cannot be disposed of in curbside trash. Radnor hosts electronics recycling events each year.

Residents can also take e-waste to the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority’s Electronic Recycling Center in Rose Tree Park. Fees may apply for CRT televisions and monitors.

Textiles Recycling

Instead of trashing old clothing and linens, donate usable items to local charities and thrift stores. Unusable textiles can be recycled at one of Radnor’s textile recycling drop-off bins.

The bins are located at the Radnor Municipal Building and the Radnor Memorial Library.
