Trash Collection

Trash is collected weekly on the day assigned to your neighborhood. Collection days are Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 3 PM.

Trash should be placed curbside in barrels or trash cans with lids before 7 AM on your collection day.

The city provides 64 gallon trash carts to residents. Extra trash must fit in the provided cart, 32 gallon barrels, or in city approved bags placed next to carts.

City approved overflow trash bags can be purchased at local stores. See the list of approved stores.

Trash barrels/containers cannot exceed 32 gallons and 50 pounds.

All trash must be bagged. Do not place loose trash in barrels.

Trash will not be collected from vacant homes or if barrels block sidewalks.

Textile Recycling

Used clothing and other textiles are collected on your regular recycling day in pink bags provided by the city’s partner Simple Recycling.

Accepted textiles include clothes, shoes, linens, towels, blankets, and stuffed animals.

Textiles must be dry, clean, and bagged. Do not place loose textiles in the recycling cart.
Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste is collected weekly April 1 through December 15 on your neighborhood’s trash collection day.

Yard waste must be placed in barrels or city approved biodegradable bags. Do not use plastic bags.

Barrels cannot exceed 32 gallons and 50 pounds.

Accepted yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings, weeds, twigs, house and garden plants.

Brush cannot exceed 1 inch in diameter and 4 feet in length.

The Drop-Off Recycling Center located at 115 Baskin Drive accepts the following materials:

Residents must register for an annual permit to use the drop-off center. Permits can be obtained through Full Circle Disposal.
Hazardous Waste Disposal
Chicopee holds semi-annual household hazardous waste collection days in the spring and fall for safe disposal of harmful materials. Residents must pre-register by filling out a form the month before the event. See details on the hazardous waste page.
Hazardous items like chemicals, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks, etc. should NOT be placed in your regular trash.
