Plano, Texas provides trash and recycling collection services for residents through the city’s Environmental Waste Services division. This article provides an overview of trash and recycling schedules, collection calendars, and other key information for Plano residents.

Trash Collection Schedules

Trash collection in Plano occurs once per week on a set schedule. Collection days are determined by neighborhood:

  • Monday: East of US-75 to eastern city limits, north of Park Blvd to northern city limits
  • Tuesday: West of US-75 to western city limits, north of Park Blvd to northern city limits
  • Wednesday: South of Park Blvd to southern city limits, east of US-75 to eastern city limits

Trash carts must be placed at the curb by 7AM on collection day but should not be placed outside earlier than 6PM the evening before. Carts must be removed from the curb by 10PM on collection day.

Recycling Collection Schedules

Recycling is collected every other week on the same day as regular trash service. Recycling weeks alternate between Week A and Week B:

  • Week A: Recycling collected on Monday and Thursday routes
  • Week B: Recycling collected on Tuesday and Wednesday routes

As with trash, recycling carts should be placed curbside no earlier than 6PM the evening before and removed by 10PM on collection day.

Bulky Item Collection

Plano residents can schedule collection of bulky items that do not fit inside normal trash carts. This includes items like furniture, appliances, and mattresses.

  • Up to 3 bulky items can be collected for free per household per collection day.
  • Collections must be scheduled in advance by calling 972-769-4199.
  • Items should be placed curbside by 7AM on the scheduled collection day.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

Hazardous household waste like chemicals, batteries, and CFL bulbs cannot be disposed of in normal trash. Plano residents must bring these items to the Environmental Collection Center (EEC) for proper disposal.

The EEC accepts hazardous waste on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9AM to 3PM. Appointments can be made by calling 972-769-4150.

Brush and Bulk Item Collection

Plano provides monthly curbside collection of brush and bulky items that are too large to fit in trash carts. This includes:

On-Call Collection Services

Plano offers the following additional on-call collection services for residents:

  • Bagged leaf collection: Up to 20 bags of leaves collected curbside each week in January and February.
  • On-call brush collection: Up to 6 cubic yards of bundled brush collected curbside per collection.
  • Extra cart rentals: Extra trash or recycling carts can be rented for $5/month.
  • Oversized item collection: For extra large items that don’t fit in trucks. Minimum $30 fee.
