Shreveport is the third largest city in Louisiana with a population of around 200,000 residents. The City of Shreveport provides trash and recycling collection services to residents through the Department of Public Works. Here is an overview of trash and recycling schedules, holidays, fees, and other key details for Shreveport.

Collection Schedule

  • Trash collection in Shreveport is once per week on a set schedule depending on your location. Recycling was previously collected weekly but is currently suspended.

  • Curbside trash must be placed in city provided wheeled carts by 7AM on your collection day. Carts must be removed from the curb by 10PM the same day.

  • The city provides two cart sizes: 96-gallon and 64-gallon. Each residence is allowed up to two city issued carts. You can request an additional cart for a one-time $50 lease fee.

  • Yard waste like grass clippings and leaves must be placed in city approved bags and stacked neatly next to carts on collection day. Bags cannot exceed 35 gallons or 50 pounds.

  • Up to 4 bulky items like furniture can be collected per request on a future collection day. Place items curbside when requesting pickup.

  • Backdoor collection is available for disabled residents living alone with a doctor’s note. Carts must be visible from the street.

Holiday Schedule

Trash collection is suspended on major holidays observed by the City of Shreveport:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr Day
  • Good Friday

Additional city issued trash carts require a one-time $50 lease fee.

The fee for backdoor collection is waived for disabled residents.
