Overview of Trash Collection

• Fort Smith provides weekly trash collection for all residential properties within city limits.

• Collection occurs on set days depending on your location. Use the online map tool or call Solid Waste Services to look up your assigned collection day.

• Trash should be placed curbside in approved containers before 7AM on your pickup day.

• The city collects bulk items and yard waste on the weekly trash collection day. Follow specific guidelines for setting these items out.

Find Your Trash Collection Day

You can look up your trash pickup day using the online map tool:

• Enter your address in the search bar.

• Your trash day will be indicated on the map.

If you cannot access the online map, call Solid Waste Services at 479-784-2465 to get your collection day.

Trash Collection Map

The trash collection map shows the different pickup days across Fort Smith:

• Monday: Central and downtown areas

• Tuesday: Northern sections

• Wednesday: Western neighborhoods

• Thursday: Areas east of Rogers Ave

• Friday: Most southern neighborhoods

Acceptable Trash Containers

• Trash must be placed in approved containers – plastic cans up to 95 gallons with lids and handles.

• Bagged trash must be in bags designed for waste, not shopping bags.

• Cardboard boxes cannot be used in place of trash cans. Break down and flatten boxes for recycling.

• Place containers at the curb edge with 3ft clearance from other objects. Do not put trash in gutters or streets.

Trash Container Limits

• Properties with cart service are limited to 2 containers per pickup.

• Poly-cart customers cannot use additional containers.

• Bag service properties can place up to 10 bags curbside each week.

• Contact Solid Waste Services to switch your account between carts and manual collection.

Bulk Trash Item Collection

Fort Smith residents can dispose of large bulk items on their normal trash day. Follow these guidelines:

• Items must be at the curb by 7AM on pickup day. Do not place items out early.

• Maximum of 5 cubic yards of bulk waste per collection.

• Individual items cannot exceed 50 lbs or need 2 people to carry. Oversize items must go to the landfill.

• Allow 3ft clearance around bulk items for collector access.

Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste is also collected on your normal trash day following these rules:

• Place leaves, grass clippings, brush in bags or reusable containers. Do not use plastic shopping bags.

• Sticks and branches must be bundled in 4ft lengths, less than 2ft diameter.

• Maximum of 20 bags/containers per pickup. Items over 35lbs count as 2 bags.

• Clearly separate yard waste piles from bulk items and normal trash.

Recycling Collection Schedule

Holiday Collection Schedule

Trash pickup is delayed by certain holidays. The adjusted collection schedule is:

• MLK Day – Pickup moves from Monday to Wednesday

• Good Friday – Pickup moves from Friday to Wednesday

• Memorial Day – Monday pickup moves to Wednesday

• July 4th – Thursday pickup moves to Wednesday

• Labor Day – Monday pickup moves to Wednesday

• Thanksgiving – Thursday pickup moves to Wednesday

• Christmas – Monday pickup moves to Wednesday

Missed Trash Collection

If your trash or recycling is missed on the scheduled day:

• Be sure items were set out properly before 7AM. Collection only happens once per route.

• Call 479-784-2465 by 3PM on the missed day to request return service for trash only.

• If calling after 3PM, pickup will be rescheduled for the following week.
