Houston Heavy Trash Collection Overview

Houston Solid Waste Management offers monthly curbside heavy trash collection to dispose of items like furniture, appliances, and other large objects. Here are key details:

• Available to Houston residential households
• Collection occurs monthly on your assigned day
• Up to 8 cubic yards collected per pickup
• No hazardous materials, loose debris, or bagged trash

Heavy trash must be set out by 7 AM on your designated day. It will be collected sometime during the day.

Your heavy trash pickup day depends on where you live in Houston. There are five collection zones:

• Zone 1: 1st Monday of the month
• Zone 2: 2nd Monday of the month
• Zone 3: 3rd Monday of the month
• Zone 4: 4th Monday of the month
• Zone 5: 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of the month

Follow these guidelines when setting materials curbside:

• Items must be placed at the curb by 7 AM on your scheduled day
• Total volume cannot exceed 8 cubic yards (about the size of two standard pickup trucks)
• No construction debris, hazardous waste, or loose debris
• Tree waste must be bundled separately for collection

Scheduling Special Heavy Trash Pickups

If you need to dispose of more than 8 cubic yards of heavy trash, you can request a special pickup:

• Request by calling 311 at least 2 weeks in advance
• Special pickups are $77 per load
• Available for up to 12 cubic yards per pickup
• Only 2 special pickups allowed per address per year

Dropping Off Heavy Trash and Bulky Items

You can also drop off heavy trash and bulky items at Houston’s Neighborhood Depositories and Recycling Centers:

• Neighborhood Depositories – Drop off bulky items, recyclables, yard waste.

• Recycling Centers – Recycle paper, cardboard, metal, plastics, glass.

Sites are open Tuesdays through Sundays. There may be disposal fees for some items.

Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling

Don’t set out hazardous waste or electronics on heavy trash day. Safely dispose of these items:
