Trash and recycling collection in Merced is handled by the Refuse Division of the Public Works Department. The city provides weekly curbside pickup of trash, recycling, and yard waste to single-family homes.

Trash Collection Schedule

Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste is collected weekly on the regular collection day. Grass clippings, leaves, and other yard debris must be placed in trash bags or cans. Tree branches and prunings must be bundled and cut to 4 feet or smaller. Extra yard waste outside weekly limits is collected by request.

Bulky Item and Extra Waste Collection

Bulky items that don’t fit in carts like furniture and appliances are collected by appointment on the normal collection day. Extra trash and yard waste above the weekly limits will also be picked up. Call 209-385-6800 to schedule bulky item collection.

Household Hazardous Waste

• Permanent drop-off site at Merced Regional Waste Facility
• Accepts paint, chemicals, oil, batteries, electronics
• Open M-F 8am-4pm, Sa 8am-12pm

Household hazardous waste can be dropped off at the Regional Waste Facility at 7040 N Highway 59. Items accepted include paint, chemicals, motor oil, batteries, and electronic waste. The site is open Monday-Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 8am-12pm.

Holiday Collection Schedule

Trash collection is delayed by one day after these major holidays:

• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day
