The City of Pasadena provides trash and recycling pickup services for residents. This article provides an overview of the pickup schedule, holidays, map, and other key details for Pasadena trash and recycling services.
Trash and Recycling Pickup Days

Trash, recycling, and yard waste are collected on the same day of the week at each home, but not necessarily at the same time of day.

Trash collection begins daily at 7:00AM. All materials should be placed curbside by 7:00AM on pickup day.

Recycling and yard waste may be collected any time before 5:00PM on the scheduled pickup day.

Holiday Schedule
Trash and recycling pickup is suspended on the following holidays:
- Christmas Day – December 25
- New Year’s Day – January 1
- Labor Day – First Monday in September
- Thanksgiving Day – Fourth Thursday in November
- Christmas Day – December 25
After a holiday, pickup is delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.

Recycling Schedule
Pasadena provides single-stream recycling collection. All recyclables can be placed in the blue lid cart:
- Paper and cardboard
- Plastic containers #1-2
- Glass bottles and jars
- Aluminum and tin cans
Motor oil and used batteries are also accepted for recycling. Schedule a free pickup by calling (626) 744-7311.
Yard Waste Schedule
Yard waste is collected in the black lid cart on your regular trash day. Accepted yard waste includes:
- Grass clippings
- Leaves
- Weeds
- Branches less than 4 feet long and 3 inches diameter
Yard waste must be loose in the cart – no plastic bags.
Bulky Item Pickup
Residents can schedule free bulky item pickup twice per year for large items like furniture and appliances. Call (626) 744-7311 to schedule. Items should be placed curbside no more than 24 hours before the pickup day.
Missed Pickup
Report missed trash, recycling, or yard waste pickup by calling (626) 744-7311 or submitting an online request. Missed pickups are collected within 1 business day of reporting.
Extra Service

Request an extra trash pickup for $92.95 by renting a temporary 3 cubic yard bin. Call at least 1 week in advance to schedule.

Permanently increase trash service by upgrading cart size or adding an additional cart for a fee. Downsizing is free once per year.
Dumpster Rental
3 cubic yard bins can be rented for trash collection that cannot be handled through the regular residential service. The cost is $92.95 per pickup. Rental bins cannot accept hazardous waste, e-waste, or construction debris.
Hazardous Waste Disposal
Hazardous household chemicals like paint, motor oil, and cleaning products cannot be placed in the trash. Attend a household hazardous waste roundup or contact Los Angeles County at (888) CLEAN-LA for proper disposal.
Multifamily Trash Service
Apartments and condos with 5+ units are not eligible for City trash service. The property manager or owner should contract waste collection with a private hauler. See the list of approved haulers for options.
Commercial Trash Service
Most businesses must contract trash service through a private hauler rather than using City trash pickup. Review requirements in Chapter 8.61 of the Pasadena Municipal Code.
