Located in Westchester County, New York, the city of Rye provides weekly trash and recycling collection services for residents. Trash Collection

  • Trash pickup occurs twice per week on Mondays/Thursdays or Tuesdays/Fridays, depending on your location in Rye.

  • Additionally, a garbage truck is stationed near the Resident Recycling Center at 141 Oakland Beach Avenue for residential trash disposal from 7AM-2PM on weekdays, excluding holidays.

  • The maximum number of trash bags allowed per household is 6 per pickup. Trash bags should not exceed 30 gallons in size.

  • Trash must be placed curbside in tied plastic bags before 7AM on collection days.

  • Bulk items such as furniture can be picked up on your second garbage collection day of the week. You must schedule a bulk pickup in advance.

  • The city does not collect construction debris, tires, car parts, or hazardous waste.

Recycling Collection

  • Curbside recycling pickup occurs once per week.

  • Paper recycling (newspapers, magazines, cardboard) is collected on your first garbage day.

  • Commingled containers (plastic, glass, cans, cardboard) are collected on your second garbage day.

  • Recycling must be placed curbside in bins before 7AM on collection days.

  • Rinse containers to remove food residue before recycling. Labels can remain on.

Other Special Collection Services

Electronics/Metal Collection: Occurs curbside on Wednesdays. Schedule a pickup in advance. Accepted items include computers, monitors, printers, TVs, phones, DVD players, cables, microwave ovens, and scrap metal.

Green Waste Collection: Occurs curbside on Wednesdays, April 1 through November 30. Accepted items include leaves, grass clippings, branches. Use paper yard waste bags or reusable containers labeled as “yard waste.” Bags/bundles should not exceed 50 pounds.

Food Scrap Composting: Food scraps can be collected in a countertop pail with compostable bags. Drop off pails at the Resident Recycling Center. Accepted items include fruit/veggie scraps, coffee grounds, eggshells, nut shells, tea bags. No meat, bones, or dairy.

Household Hazardous Waste: Paint, pesticides, solvents, fluorescent bulbs, and other hazardous items are accepted on certain county collection dates.

Holiday Collection Schedule

Trash and recycling pickup is delayed one day after these major holidays:

  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, Monday pickup is not affected.

The Recycling Center may close early on holidays and have reduced hours on Sundays.
