Overview of Trash and Recycling Program
Ocean City provides trash and recycling collection services to all households and businesses in the city. The schedule varies between summer and winter seasons.
Recycling is mandatory in Ocean City and all recyclables can be placed in the same container. The city provides free labels for trash and recycling bins which are required. Yard waste is also collected on designated days.
The city ordinance limits trash, recycling and yard waste bins to 32 gallons and 50 lbs. All containers must have lids.
Summer Trash and Recycling Schedule
The summer schedule begins the third Monday in June and ends the Saturday after Labor Day in September. During summer, most areas have twice weekly trash and recycling pickup.
- Monday & Thursday – Longport Bridge to north side of 9th St.
- Yard waste collected Thursday
- Tuesday & Friday – South side of 9th St. to north side of 28th St
- Yard waste collected Tuesday
- Wednesday & Saturday – South side of 28th St. to 59th St.
- Yard waste collected Wednesday
Winter Trash and Recycling Schedule
After Labor Day, the winter trash schedule begins. All areas have weekly pickup during winter.
- Monday – South side of 34th to 59th Streets
- Tuesday – South side of 17th to north side of 34th Streets
- Wednesday – South side of 9th to north side of 17th Streets
- Thursday – South side of 3rd to north side of 9th Streets
- Friday – Longport Bridge to north side of 3rd Streets
Holiday Schedule Changes
On holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day there is no trash pickup. Routes are pushed back one day that week. For example if Thursday is a holiday, Thursday’s route will be collected Friday.
Recycling Program Overview
Ocean City encourages all residents and visitors to recycle. It is the law in New Jersey. The city recycling program includes:
- Curbside pickup of commingled recyclables all in one bin – glass, plastic, aluminum, paper, cardboard.
- Curbside pickup of yard waste – leaves, branches, grass (paper bags or labeled cans).
- Drop-off recycling center for additional materials.
Recyclables should not be placed in plastic bags. The city provides free labels to identify recycling containers.
