Citrus Heights, California provides weekly trash and recycling collection services to residents through a contract with Republic Services. This article provides an overview of collection schedules, policies, rates, and contact information.
Trash Collection

Trash is collected weekly on your assigned day, Monday through Friday.

Collection occurs from 7 AM – 6 PM. Carts should be placed at the curb by 7 AM.

The city provides 32, 64, or 96 gallon trash carts. Rates vary by cart size.

Extra trash must fit inside your provided cart. Overflow bags are not accepted.

Loose trash must be bagged – do not place directly in bins.

Carts cannot block sidewalks. Avoid placing them near parked vehicles.

Service is mandatory for all residences unless a temporary exemption is granted.
Recycling Collection

Recycling is collected every other week. Services alternate between Week A and Week B.

Check the collection schedule calendar to see if your address is on Week A or Week B.

A 96 gallon recycling cart is provided to all residents. Extra recycling can be placed in paper bags or 32 gallon barrels beside the cart.

Food scraps and yard waste are collected weekly on your trash collection day.

A 96 gallon organics cart is provided. Extra organic waste can be placed in paper bags or barrels beside the cart.

Accepted organics include food scraps, food soiled paper, yard waste, and non-recyclable paper.

Organic waste must be bagged or wrapped inside the cart to reduce mess and pests. Do not place loose waste directly in the cart.
Bulky Item and E-Waste Pickup

Bulky items like furniture and mattresses are collected on your regular trash day upon request. Contact Republic Services to schedule.

E-waste like TVs, computers, and other electronics can be disposed of at Neighborhood Clean Up events.
Household Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste like chemicals, batteries, CFL bulbs, paint cans, etc. should NOT go in your curbside bins.

Citrus Heights residents can dispose of hazardous waste for free at the North Area Recovery Station by appointment.

Home generated sharps can be collected curbside by appointment through Republic Services.
Holiday Schedule Changes

When a holiday falls on a weekday, collection is delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Christmas trees are collected for three weeks after Christmas on your regular trash day.
