The City of Irving provides trash and recycling collection for residents and businesses. This article explains Irving’s standard collection schedule, how holidays affect pickup, bulky and brush collection, and how to start service.

Standard Collection Schedule

Irving offers curbside trash collection twice per week on designated days. Recycling and brush/bulky collection occurs once per week.

Trash Collection

  • Twice weekly on assigned days
  • Unlimited volume of translucent blue bags accepted
  • 8 bag limit per collection day for other trash bags
  • Bags cannot exceed 50 lbs
  • Place at curb by 7 AM on collection day

Recycling Collection

  • Once weekly on assigned day
  • Use translucent blue bags for recycling (available at City Hall and recreation centers)
  • Unlimited volume accepted
  • Flatten cardboard boxes and place under bags

Brush and Bulky Waste

  • Once weekly on assigned day
  • Includes large items like appliances and furniture

Brush and bulky waste can also be dropped off for free at the Hunter Ferrell Landfill with proof of residency.

Holiday Schedule Changes

Irving does not provide collection on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

If a holiday falls on your normal collection day, pickup moves to the following week.

Household Hazardous Waste

Do not place hazardous waste in your normal trash or recycling. Irving collects paint, oil, filters, and more for proper disposal on your scheduled collection day.

Other household hazardous waste can be dropped off at the City of Irving Recycling Center, including:

  • Chemicals
  • Fertilizers
  • Automotive fluids
  • Batteries
  • Electronics

Large Item and Brush Disposal

For large amounts of brush, bulky items, or construction debris, Irving residents can rent roll-off containers through the city’s roll-off container service.

Residents can also bring items to the Hunter Ferrell Landfill for a fee. See the landfill site for details.

Signing Up for Service

To start trash and recycling collection:

Residential Service

Trash collection is automatically included with residential water service in Irving. Use the standard curbside collection.

Commercial Service

Businesses must sign up for commercial collection through the city’s contracted hauler. Contact the Solid Waste Services department at 972-721-8059 for details.

Christmas Tree Collection

Irving provides curbside Christmas tree collection from December 27 through January 14 each year. Remove all decorations and leave trees at the curb on your assigned brush and bulky collection day.

Trees can also be dropped off for mulching at:

  • Hunter Ferrell Landfill
  • Cottonwood Creek Park
  • Las Colinas Service Center
  • Southwest Park
