Standard Collection Schedule
Hanford provides weekly curbside pickup on designated days using three 96-gallon wheeled carts:
- Green cart – For green waste and food waste only
- Blue cart – For recyclables only
- Black cart – For refuse only
Collection days are assigned by neighborhood as shown on the Refuse Collection Schedule Map.
The city modified the schedule starting September 14, 2020 to balance routes and improve efficiency. Check the map to verify your assigned collection days.
Residential Service
- Green waste carts are collected weekly
- Recycling carts are collected every other week
- Refuse carts are collected weekly

Commercial Service
Businesses receive customized refuse, recycling, and organics collection tailored to their needs. Contact the Refuse Department at 559-585-2550 to establish commercial service.
The city requires all commercial haulers to obtain a Solid Waste Collection Permit.
Holiday Schedule Changes
Hanford publishes an annual Holiday Collection Schedule detailing changes around holidays.
If a holiday falls on a weekday, collection for the remainder of the week shifts to one day later. For example:
- If the holiday is Monday, Monday customers are serviced Tuesday, Tuesday customers are serviced Wednesday, etc.
- If the holiday is Friday, Friday customers are serviced Saturday.
Commercial customers receive make-up collection on Saturdays after holidays to maintain weekly service.
Check the published holiday schedule each year for specific dates. The schedule is posted on the Refuse Department page.
Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste (HHW) requires special disposal. Do not place HHW in your normal trash, recycling, or green waste bins.
Acceptable HHW for disposal includes:
- Chemical or powder cleaners
- Paint and solvents
- Landscape care chemicals or fertilizers
- Automotive fluids and chemicals
- Batteries
- Fluorescent bulbs and tubes
- Electronic devices (anything with a plug or battery)
Take HHW to a Kings Waste Recycling Authority collection center. Details on locations, hours, and acceptable materials can be found on their HHW site:
Used motor oil and filters can be recycled at any auto parts store. Check with the store for quantity limitations.
