This article provides an overview of the trash and recycling collection schedule and guidelines for the City of Atlanta.
Trash and Recycling Provider
The City of Atlanta Department of Public Works provides trash and recycling services to residents.
To report missed collections or ask questions, contact 311 or visit www.atl311.com.
Trash Collection

Trash is collected once per week on your designated collection day.

Trash must be placed in City of Atlanta-issued carts. Overflow trash must be in bags beside carts.

Carts should be placed at the curb by 7AM on collection day.

Weight limit is 50 pounds per 32-gallon cart or 100 pounds per 64/96-gallon cart.

Yard trimmings are collected on your second collection day each month. Place in paper bags or personal containers weighing less than 50 pounds each.
Recycling Collection

Recycling is collected once per week on your designated day.

Use City of Atlanta 18-gallon bin or larger personal container marked “Recycling.”

Place curbside by 7AM on collection day.
Accepted Curbside Recyclables:
- Paper and cardboard
- Plastic bottles and containers
- Glass bottles and jars
- Aluminum cans, steel cans and empty aerosol cans
- Milk and juice cartons

Holiday Collection Schedule
If a holiday falls on your regular collection day, pickup is delayed by one day that week.
Upcoming holidays that will delay collection by 1 day:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day – January 16, 2023
- Memorial Day – May 29, 2023
- Juneteenth – June 19, 2023
- Independence Day – July 4, 2023
- Labor Day – September 4, 2023
- Thanksgiving – November 23, 2023
- Christmas Day – December 25, 2023

Bulky Trash Disposal

Each household can place up to 5 cubic yards of bulky items curbside per collection.

Accepted items: furniture, mattresses, appliances, tires (limit 5), carpets, drywall, toilets, sinks, etc.

Bulky trash is collected monthly. Check your collection schedule.

Fees apply for collection of more than 5 cubic yards. Contact 311 to schedule.
Yard Waste Disposal

Yard trimmings are collected curbside on your second collection day each month.
-
Place leaves, grass clippings, brush, and branches in paper yard waste bags or personal containers less than 50 pounds.
-Brush/branches must be cut to 4-foot lengths and bundled.
-Separate yard waste from other garbage and recycling.
Hazardous Waste Disposal
Household hazardous waste like chemicals, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, etc. cannot go in the trash.
Drop off these items at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1105 Hill St SE on Saturdays only from 8AM-3PM. Appointment required.
Electronics Recycling

Electronics can be dropped off for free recycling at the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM).

CHaRM accepts TVs, computers, small appliances, and more from city residents.

CHaRM is located at 1110 Hill St SE and open Tuesdays-Saturdays, 8AM-4PM.
