The City of Newark provides weekly curbside trash and recycling pickup for residents. This article provides an overview of Newark’s waste collection program, including schedules, guidelines, and key details to know.
Trash Collection

Trash is collected either 2 times per week (Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday) based on your assigned zone.

The city is divided into Zone A and Zone B for pickup.

Zone A receives trash collection on Mondays and Thursdays.

Zone B receives trash collection on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Use the zone lookup map to find your assigned collection days.

Trash must be placed curbside in lidded cans or durable plastic bags by 6:00am on collection days.

Mondays: Household trash and commingled recyclables
Thursdays: Household trash and separated recyclables
Zone B Schedule
Tuesdays: Household trash and commingled recyclables
Fridays: Household trash and separated recyclables
Recycling Collection

Recycling is collected weekly along with trash pickups.

Accepted recyclables include paper, cardboard, metal cans, glass jars/bottles, plastic containers.

Recyclables can either be commingled or separated into paper/cardboard and containers.

Use blue recycling bins provided by the city. Flatten cardboard boxes.
Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste is collected monthly in Zone A and Zone B.

Zone A: 3rd Wednesday of each month

Zone B: 4th Wednesday of each month

Accepted materials include leaves, twigs, and branches bundled or bagged.
Bulk Item Collection

Bulk items like furniture are collected monthly in Zone A and Zone B.

Zone B: 2nd Wednesday of each month

Limit of 10 bulk items per collection. Contact a private hauler for more.

No construction debris, tires, electronics, or hazardous waste.
Holiday Schedule
Trash and recycling collection are suspended on these holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Presidents’ Day
- Good Friday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Columbus Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Schedules shift to the following day after a holiday.
