Collection Days

Ossining is divided into two zones that each have two collection days per week:

  • Zone 1 – Monday and Thursday
  • Zone 2 – Tuesday and Friday

On your first collection day, only garbage is picked up. On your second collection day, recycling and bulk items are collected.

Organic waste like food scraps is collected weekly on Mondays for both zones.

Collection Schedule

  • Garbage – Collected once per week on your first collection day. Should be bagged and placed in trash cans.
  • Recycling – Collected once per week on your second collection day. Should be placed in recycling bins.
  • Organic Waste – Collected weekly on Mondays. Should be placed in compostable bags.
  • Bulk Items – Collected once per week on your second collection day. Includes large items like furniture.

Accepted Curbside Materials

  • Garbage – Non-recyclable and non-hazardous waste
  • Recycling – Plastic containers, glass bottles, aluminum cans, paper, cardboard

  • Bulk Items – Furniture, mattresses, carpeting
  • Bulk Metals – Appliances, electronics, scrap metal

Items not accepted curbside can be brought to the Ossining DPW site. Hazardous waste must be disposed of separately through recycling events or facilities.

Holiday Schedule

Collections are cancelled on major holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

After a holiday, collections for the remainder of the week shift to one day later.

The Ossining Department of Public Works operates a drop-off site for trash, recycling, and other materials. Main materials accepted:
