Living in Portland, Oregon? Here is a comprehensive guide on when your trash, recycling, and yard debris are collected based on where you live in the city.

Portland has a regular trash and recycling collection schedule for houses, duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes. However, the schedule varies across different parts of the city.

Overview of Trash Collection in Portland

  • Portland provides garbage collection services through private haulers authorized by the city. The city is divided into 9 districts and each district is serviced by an assigned hauler.

  • Trash collection is every other week. Recycling and yard debris are collected weekly.

  • Standard trash cart sizes are 20, 35, 60 or 90 gallons. Recycling carts are 35, 65 or 95 gallons. Yard debris bins are 20, 35 or 90 gallons.

  • Residents are billed quarterly for trash, recycling and compost collection based on cart sizes. Rates vary by hauler.

  • Apartments and businesses arrange for collection directly through private haulers. They are not part of the city collection system.

  • Need to replace or get additional carts? Contact your hauler.
