The City of Mobile provides trash and recycling collection services for residents. This article provides an overview of trash and recycling schedules, guidelines, and contact information for the city.

Trash Collection

  • Trash collection for Mobile residents occurs either weekly or every other week depending on location.

    • North of Government St – Every other week collection

    • South of Government St – Weekly collection

  • To find your scheduled pickup days, enter your address on the My Mobile 311 website. You can also view PDF maps of the north collection schedule and south collection schedule.

  • Trash must be placed curbside by 6AM on your scheduled day in bags or cans up to 50 pounds.

  • Bulk items like furniture are collected on regular trash days. Contact the Public Works department to schedule pickup of bulk items.

  • The city provides quarterly Spring Cleanup Collection for extra trash and bulky items. See the website for scheduled dates.

  • Burning and burying trash is prohibited in Mobile.

Recycling Collection

  • The city offers voluntary curbside recycling collection every other week. Recycling is collected on the opposite week from your trash pickup.

  • Check your personalized collection schedule on My Mobile 311 or call Public Works at 251-208-5311.

  • Place recycling curbside in the provided 18-gallon bin by 6AM on your scheduled day.

  • Accepted items include paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and jugs, aluminum/steel cans. No glass.

Yard Waste Collection

  • Yard waste like leaves, grass clippings and brush is collected on your second collection day of the week along with recycle collection.

  • Brush and branches must be bundled and tied in 4-foot sections weighing less than 50 pounds.

  • The city provides curbside leaf collection in November and December. Rake leaves to the curb on your scheduled collection day during leaf season.

Holiday Schedule

Trash and recycling collection are suspended on these holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr Day
  • Presidents’ Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Collection moves to the next weekday after a holiday.

Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste like chemicals, batteries, fluorescent bulbs can be dropped off on Saturdays from 9AM-1PM at the Public Works building (2950 Pleasant Valley Rd).

  • City Landfills: Mobile residents can dispose of household garbage and yard waste for free at Chickasabogue, Holt or SW Landfill. Learn more.
